Have you ever had the need to send a message to all your customers just hours before, or even during, an event?
Email lists work well as a one-to-many way of communicating but what if everyone is already at the venue? Not everyone has a modern smartphone that is email capable.
MailChimp has a new tool called Gather that let's you communicate to your ticket buyers by text message.
ThunderTix recommends MailChimp to its clients because it is a great way to manage the email addresses collected during the ticket purchase process. For those times when email is not sufficient, Gather may be just right. MailChimp CEO Ben Chestnut explains:
We host, sponsor, speak at, and attend lots of events, and we've noticed that email’s a great communication tool before events for sending invitations, agendas, and directions. And email’s great after events for sending follow-up surveys, links to presentations, or incriminating photos from the happy hour. But during an event, email is practically useless.
For example, if you’re hosting an event and you just learned that your speaker is stuck in traffic, or that the caterer is a no-show, you can’t send an urgent email to your attendees and expect that they’ll be checking their inboxes.
Email’s fast, but it’s just not NOW. That’s why we created Gather. It’s “MailChimp for SMS.”
You will need an iPhone to send messages with Gather, however, your customers can receive the message on any SMS capable mobile phone.
Note that Gather makes use of the iPhone's powerful push notifications to send responses back to you if needed. The real-time nature of SMS and push notifications means that everyone stays in the loop no matter how fluid the situation may be.
