Austin's Frontera Fest 2011 celebrates 18 years of regaling, moving, and thrilling audiences with original and amazing performances by both local and nationally known artists. The five week production ends this week with the best of the best of their Long Fringes, complete performances of approximately 90 minutes, and Short Fringes, a selection of five 25-minute original pieces. It's fantastic and should be on everyone's list of things to do each year, but due to limited seating, the show often sells out and leaves many would-be attendees waiting for next year.
This week is a compilation of the past weeks' top shows as voted on by the audience from over 100 original works spanning comedy, theater and dance. Last night, I had the immense pleasure of enjoying five performances fully deserving of their place in FF's storied history. There are no spoilers here, so enjoy this short video featuring snippets of all five acts, and see a repeat of these shows on Friday, February 11th at 8:00 p.m.. And remember, FronteraFest closes on Saturday. See Hyde Park Theatre, one of Austin's many community theaters sponsoring the event, for details. Currently, the website indicates the week's shows are sold out. But if you show up at the theater by 7:00, you may snag a seat, as each show some previously purchased tickets go unredeemed.
