The scanners themselves only act in place of a keyboard, so the function should be the same across all devices.

Now, the iPad does not have a USB port, nor does it have any adapters for USBs so it is not an option for a scanning work station with ThunderTix. We do not yet know if the iPad Mini will be different, but if it does not have any USB adapter, like the iPad, it will not be a viable Tablet option.

Other than that, you need only find out that the tablet you want has the USB connection and a reliable Internet connection in order for scanning to function properly.

In order to manually generate barcodes in excel – you need Free 3 of 9 Extended font. The barcode type that prints on both PDF and thermal tickets is C128.

First, you'll need to modify the exported barcode report so that the alphanumeric code in excel has an asterisk before and after in order for the scanner to pick up the barcode.

We've had clients do this because they don’t want to print out 2000 thermal tickets or PDF tickets in advance. This way, they are able to generate many advanced orders to prepare and accommodate for walk-ups without actually printing the tickets too.

Further, they can account for walk-ups so that the owners can see how many tickets have been scanned throughout the event including the number of walk-ups.

You can create an event that spans many days where a ticket buyer can use the ticket for any day of the event, but they may only use it once. Here's how:

1. Create a new event with 1 date where you set the date to the FINAL day of your multi-day event.
2. Check the Box titled "Do not display event time"
3. Check the next box to replace the date field with your own text.
4. In the Replacement Text box, enter the date range in which your event occurs. For example, "November 4-13, 2012"
5. Set the price and ticket type to be the cost of admission for 1 single day.
6. Make sure your PDF ticket is enabled.
7. Click Finish when you've entered all other details for the event.

Now, when a customer buys a ticket, they are purchasing 1 single day and will receive an email receipt that includes the number of tickets they bought for the event.

Each day that the event takes place, your staff will scan tickets by going to the Scan menu and choosing the "Event Name" NOT all events taking place that day. Remember, we set the event date to the LAST day of your festival, so choosing any day other than the last day will NOT work. When your staff scans a ticket, it will be marked in the system as "Scanned" and will be unable to be scanned a second time. Therefore, their tickets is valid for one day only -- any day of the entire event.

All barcode scanners have a setting that allows the scanner to automatically submit the barcode after each scan. This is done in place of hitting an enter key and is also known as a carriage return, or tab.

For Intermec wireless/cordless scanners, follow these steps:

Go Start/Settings/System/Intermec Settings. Under Intermec Settings, go to Data Collection/Internal Scanner/Symbology Options. Click on Postamble. In the box that comes up, type \x0D (lower case x, zero, capital D). This is the value for a Carriage Return. Then do a File/Save Settings.

For a corded USB scanner, you'll need to scan in the barcodes in the document attached below. We have heard varying success on enabling the automatic submission in either of the 2 documents below.

http://thundertix.com/uploads/TTX/auto_submit.doc

http://thundertix.com/uploads/TTX/carriage_return.doc

There are two methods available to scan barcoded tickets for events:

1. Scan a Single Event - This is the most widely used method of scanning and should be the choice in the following situations:

If your venue has a single event and a single ticket type on a given night.

If you choose to limit entrance by ticket type for a single event, say a limited number of VIP tickets and larger number of General Admission tickets, you can divide your gate entrances to give VIP ticket holders preferential treatment. General Admission ticket holders attempting entrance at a "VIP Only" gate would be flagged as Invalid and can be routed to the appropriate gate.

If your venue chooses to collect tickets at the gate and scan them the next day, this should be your choice, so your tickets will not be invalidated if scanning at a time other than the actual Event date.

2. Scan All - This option allows you to scan all performances for a given date and should be your choice when:

For example, if you have VIP tickets and General Admission, and you wish to scan both types at a single gate, you would choose Scan All.

If your venue has multiple Events occurring on a single date, you can scan all Event tickets from a single gate.

Important Notes:
When using Scan a Single Event, do realize that any valid ticket for the Event for which you are scanning will be valid even if you are scanning on a date other than the Event date. This is to allow you to scan after the Event has passed.

When using Scan All, any ticket that is not purchased for the given date on which you are scanning will be displayed as invalid. This is to allow you to scan multiple Events valid for a single day from a single gate.

Links of Interest:
Using your Barcode Scanner

Using the Order Lookup Tool
